It can be funny when it’s done right, but generally its so poorly done or cliche that it feels like they either 1) don’t know how to tell a joke, or 2) are trying to get sympathy for their insecurities under an extremely thin veil of humour.

I like to go to comedy clubs, and some of the worst sets I’ve seen have just been the comic shitting on themselves for an hour. It’s feels like I’m a voyeur in some extremely sad jerk-off session, and it gets really uncomfortable after a while. The worst part is when the comic has the audacity to guilt you for being a tough crowd when all they’ve been doing is itemizing everything wrong with their lives. I paid for a joke, not a sob story.
