Can you still collect EI if you leave and the place doesn't close down? My husband is in this situation. Our province has declared a state of emergency and asked not essential bussiness' to close. They are staying open, riding that fine line because they definitely aren't essential but they claim they are. I have health conditions so does our daughter. His work wont put any measures in place customers are still lounging around the store, paying in cash, no social distancing being enforced :/ Would he apply for the regular EI (which he has the hours for) or the new EI? I'm just worried because it says you need a ROE and i'm worried they will put job abandonment or refusal to work or something and we absolutely can't survive with no income (%55 percent will be a challenge). This situation really sucks. He's very stressed feeling like he's risking our lives to feed/house us :/ I feel for everyone in this situation i know there are many of us...
