Sen. Dick Durbin: Democrats can lose to Trump if they 'overdo it' by being too liberal

the left's message has always been about progress. the right's message has always been about preserving. right now, the left, has been focused on preventing Trump's damage. that's not inherently a bad thing in and of itself. but it's also a conservative mindset. prevent the damage. the left's mindset, traditionally, has been about moving us forward into the future. saying that the left can fix the damage that Trump caused, and move into the future, is a hopeful message that's in line with the left's mindset. Trump has, oddly, caused the left to use the right's mindset. political mindset is different than political ideology. you can be a conservative with a hopeful "left's mindset," or a liberal with a fearful "right's mindset," although traditionally people's political mindset tends to naturally be in line with their political ideology. what I've been seeing recently is that the reaction to Trump has been similar to the right's reaction to Obama. it's responding to Trump with the right's mindset. so all that I'm suggesting, as a solution, is to shift back more towards what has traditionally been the left's mindset.
