Serious, Am I the only one that thinks Hinkie wasn't a genius?

Like most things, it's probably somewhere in the middle. I don't find him to be the all powerful genius that much of r/nba makes him out to be, but I also think he had some progressive ideas and made some moves that definitely worked out in the end.

Like any other GM he had strengths and weaknesses. He made some great trades (the Kings deal, the MCW deal), but I don't believe he was really the great drafter he gets credit for. Embiid was a phenomenal pick, but he was the 3rd pick in a '3 man draft'. Everybody knew Embiid was going 3rd at worst.

His other draft picks I've been far less impressed with. Okafor was a pretty terrible pick in hindsight - his value has done nothing but sink like a stone since the moment he was drafted. Noel has been an awkward fit (at best) since day one, MCW speaks for himself. I think his whole strategy of 'best player available' was completely flawed in every way and tanking year after year only to create a log jam was terrible drafting. The Sixers have a bright future, but would be even brighter had they drafted better with those tank lottery picks. The whole "we'll just draft all the centers and figure out our backcourt later" thing never really worked, it's years later and they still don't have their backcourt figured out.

That being said, the moves he made netted them Embiid and Simmons, so whether I think he's a genius or not, it's hard to argue too much with the results. He had a plan that eventually worked, but I don't believe him to be some basketball savant either.
