[Serious] Americans of Reddit, how much does a lack of free healthcare impact your day to day life?

for those that drive every single day, the statistical probability of you getting into an accident is astronomical. you have to live and deal with the fact that you could wake up in a hospital bed with hundreds of thousands of dollars in medical bills because you weren’t conscious at the scene.

i was in an accident and my head was split open. the cut went all the way to my skull, first responders had to basically hold my face together with the gauze.

when the first responders were calling EMS to transport me, i interrupted them and told them to take me to the cheapest hospital in the area (my injuries were not life threatening).

they were asking me repetitive questions to keep me conscious. i clearly was in shock. but not in shock enough to let them take me to Money Bags Medical (that was further away, again because my injuries were not life threatening)

i feel like they almost take advantage when you’re in a condition like that.

i thank the universe i somehow kept my consciousness.
