[Serious] Autistic people of Reddit, what do you wish more people knew about Autism?

It is a spectrum, but not everyone is on it. Neurotypical individuals can have some traits that are similar, but the diagnosis process is quite long and thorough because to be deemed autistic someone needs several traits, traits that are becoming better understood.

A proper diagnosis is usually conducted with several professionals who observe the individual separately. They interview parents/guardians, have the individual take an assessment as well as an IQ test. Once all is done, they will review together to determine if someone is autistic/other/not. A detailed analysis is then provided to the individual.

If a person slipped through the cracks as a child, getting diagnosed as an adult does make a change. It changes everything. It is a relief to know that the behavior you could not correct was really something you could not help. And many children (especially girls) get missed.
