[Serious] Couples who are still together, what is the biggest fight you've had and how did you solve it?

After my SO and I had been together for about a year she went through a phase where every time we would go out and have a couple of drinks, she would get really confrontational with me and pick a fight. One night it escalated way to far and was made worse because we were out with friends. Basically, she'd had one too many, starting saying really shitty things and putting me down in front of our friends. At some point I looked at the others and said, "sorry this is happening guys. I'm gonna go home just to put an end to the situation."

As I was leaving I realized the bar closed in like 5 mins anyway. It was really late, in the middle of the city pretty far from where we lived and she was really drunk. So I figured it would be irresponsible of me to leave her there on her own. So I called a cab, it arrived just as she was walking out of the bar with her friends. As soon as she saw me she just tore into me (literally...she tore the shirt off my body) and I basically screamed something like "shut up you asshole, I know I said I was leaving but I stuck around to get you a cab to make sure you get home safely." At that point I put her in the cab, told the driver our address, sent them on their way and I walked home.

The next morning she woke up and in her hungover haze didn't realize the severity of the situation. She brought up the fight and basically began insinuating that I was the one who had been out of line. At that point I basically let her have it. I told her about they way she had been behaving lately in general, detailed the way the previous evening had gone down, demanded that she contact the friends we were with so that they could back up my story, and told her that if shit didn't change immediately I was moving out and ending things.

That was 15 years ago...we've basically been best friends ever since.....got married, have a kid.
