Serious curiosity about console v PC

I DID make the switch because I lost interest in most of the exclusives, Nintendo in particular is the biggest exclusives publisher and I feel like they've had their heads up their asses for the better part of the past decade. Neither MS or Sony really have enough exclusives to make them more attractive than the PC, all other things being equal.

But all other things aren't equal, planning on switching back to consoles next gen unless the Steam controller is too good to go back.

The first, most obvious thing, is simply having things separate. By having "everything in one box", you impede your ability to multitask. If I want to get on the internet for just a minute on a PC, I need to alt tab it and some games don't like that(Skyrim just closes sometimes, others don't return normally) in addition to just feeling less fluid than having my TV and console set up next to my computer. It also means when not multitasking, I'm running my computer more when I normally wouldn't be, computer dies sooner. Which leads me to my next point...

When I decided to move to PC gaming, I was under the impression that it was more "backwards compatible" being that the OS and software have been steadily evolving for decades. Not so, even not so old games like GTA4 or Fallout 3 are unreliable on a 2015 computer. There are fixes for those but it undermines the convenience factor, I don't need to google how to make Smash Bros play properly. Really old stuff you may need to keep your old PCs, except the hardware is more likely to fail due to being a multitask device that is used more often and has more moving parts.

On a side note this is a major part of where console gaming has gone wrong. The most common hardware defects in my observation have been disc read failures, and the notorious ones have been on consoles with fancy loading trays instead of cartridges or simple pop top designs like the reliable playstation and gamecube. Consoles could still have a reliability edge over PCs, but they currently don't

PC gaming is also where intrusive bullshit DRM is piled on top of other DRM and where you need to sign up an account with the publisher to play games, fuck. that. The exclusives of consoles are no longer significant, but consoles still have a place as long as Sony/MS/Nintendo don't screw it up too badly
