[Serious] Dentists of reddit, what's the biggest mistake or misunderstanding people make when it comes to dental hygiene?

Finally a thred about dentists. Dentist please help me. My partner does not brush their teeth. They are 22 and their teeth are absolutely fine (for now) and they've never brushed them. They think that using toothpaste will make their teeth fall out because of whatever's in it I don't really understand. I don't know how to explain to them to get them to start brushing their teeth everyday. How can I explain to them how important it is to brush their teeth? I'm hoping it's in this can help me because Google is confusing and maybe you can put it in simple terms. Last time I brought it up they got upset with me and told me that their aunt brushed their teeth everyday and she had to have Dentures but I don't believe that their aunt was telling the truth when she told them that.
