[Serious] Does anyone still enjoy tv / movies knowing that some of the people involved in the production are scumbags or committed horrific crimes? To what degree can (or should) these types of media be enjoyed versus avoided or cringed at?

I am interested to hear what people think. This is not something i do regularly, but I watch a lot of film/tv, and this is the case sometimes. Obviously there are different tiers of scumbag, Cosby being at the top, or O.J. Simpson. Then there's Weinstein, Woody Allen, etc. as well as others. The process of watching media like this is very different from normal media, yet still similar in some ways. Your assumptions are different, and it's more of an observational thing I guess, always waiting to see if the person is going to show signs of their transgressions. Certain movies will be simply enjoyable, and others will make me cringe because they just evoke the flaws/crimes of the actor or director. Many times it's a little of both. Heaven's gate is another movie I'd like to mention, because of the crew's criminal treatment of animals. I think OJ's role in the Naked Gun is "non-cringe" because the character he plays constantly gets beat up. The opposite is true for the Cosby Show, which is why I haven't watched it.

For someone such as Polanski, there is some value in seeing his films, but since he is still active as a filmmaker, I would feel weird going out and buying his work and thus supporting the man. I've seen 2 of his films in TV though.
