An old friend of mine was, potentially still is, involved in a cult though she begs to differ. It’s called Landmark (once known as “the forum”). Wikipedia says it’s a “company offering personal development programs”, aka best way of saying it’s a cult. My friend’s father would spend thousands and thousands of dollars so his daughter and a whole bunch of other kids could sit in a room unable to contact anyone even if they want to while they all scream about and reveal the most horrible things that have ever happened to them under the guise of moving up the “spiritual ranks” or some bullshit. Like just imagine a bunch of teenagers locked in a room screaming and freaking out about being raped, abused, assaulted, and any other horrific thing you can think of, totally cut off from the outside world by the cult leaders, no access to a phone or anything just having one continuous mental breakdown for hours. And you paid for it.
