[serious] Is the Ghostbusters reboot hate justified in your opinion?

Here's my perspective:

When I was a kid, when the first Ghostbusters movie came out, I was obsessed. I had the car and the action figures. A few years later, I remember when cable TV finally offered 32 basic channels, and one channel showed reruns of the first few seasons of SNL. I got to see the comedic work Dan Aykroyd and Bill Murray did on that show: "Jane you ignorant slut," the unsafe toy guy, the friend of Gilda Radner's nerd character, wild and crazy guys, coneheads...classic characters. Our parents encouraged us to follow them, and I seen most of their movies.

Now, the reboot. Let me start by discussing the women, and their work on SNL. I think Kristen Wiig was amazing on that show. Dooneese, Target lady, Penelope, sorry, and Paula Deen...funny stuff. Kate and Melissa have for sure had their moments on that show. And although this is an unpopular opinion, I actually liked Leslie's first Weekend Update appearance as a relationship expert.

A lot of people have a very strict view of what Ghostbusters should be, and that's what it was. The reboot has been described as pandering, all of the characters seem to be playing up their roles for laughs, which wasn't a quality in the characters in the original, and that Leslie is playing a racial stereotype.

I like these women. And it's Ghostbusters, not Caddyshack or Groundhog Day, or Gone With the Wind. Maybe in 10 years I'll change my mind. But for now, I'd like to see funny ladies in this project. I'm not all up the ass of the original. It's fantasy. It's fun. Remember when Gus van Sant did the shot for shot remake of Psycho? People were just asking "why"? Art should evolve and change over time. I think this reboot is fine. People just need to lighten up.
