[Serious] Hey reddit. As someone who lives in Venezuela, what is it like living in a free developed country?

I want to preface this by saying that I'm not trying to take a dig at any other free and developed country.

But America is the most free, despite what you hear all the time. We are the only country where you can say whatever you want on Twitter and not expect a visit from the police unless you are threatening somebody.

Now to answer your question:

I love this country. Very much. I am extremely grateful for it. I have had the privilege to travel to almost every State before my mid-twenties and see all the different cultures. I've been told in Russia you can't travel like that without certain papers and there's many cities you can't go to at all unless you were moved there by the government.

There is never a curfew unless there is a state of emergency. I can go out any time I want, walk anywhere I want, and the only danger/risk comes from the people that live in the area, not the government.

I can say whatever I want about my government. I can drive anywhere if I can afford the gas/petrol.

I have a small device in my pocket that can access the majority of all information the human race has ever collected. I have another small device that wraps around my ear so I can listen to that device without even holding it. I don't have to worry about whether or not my water will be running tomorrow, I have all the food my family can eat, and I've had the privilege to work for everything I have.

But not all of even America has these privileges. Many people in West Virginia and Kentucky have to choose between paying to have heat next winter or getting a new out-house because they don't have indoor plumbing. And I respect the hell out of those people because that is where my family came from, and now I'm where I am today. That is what people mean by the American Dream and that is the freedom I most love about this country.
