[Serious] If you saw someone being attacked what would you actually do?

I’ve seen plenty of fights, some you walk past, you don’t get involved. Their typically the late night drunk brawls, ego driven, not worth it, not your problem and you could make it worse for yourself. But then, some situations you find yourself stepping up and before you know it your involved. One night, on my way to an event, just as I approached the venue a young female police officer was attempting to restrain a larger male, he was well over 6ft and was easily overpowering her. Simple matter of size. A small crowd formed, to watch as it quickly, within seconds erupted to him throwing hay makers and she took a couple direct hits... before I knew it I had ran in and jumped on his back, full choke hold, I surprised myself. I’m not by any means a fighter, I just reacted. Not a single person stepped in, 10 seconds of a struggle she regained her position and was back on him, I still hung on and could feel him losing wind. Two cruisers pulled up and within seconds a couple larger male officers ran up and slammed us all against a parked car, hard enough to break the taillight behind me. As they went to grab and pull me off (as to make an arrest) the onlookers yelled in “Not him! The other guy!” I jumped down as they restrained him, they said nothing to me and I went on with my evening to the event. I imagine in most cases this is probably the worst thing to do but sometimes there’s little thought and just reaction when considering someone else’s safety.

TLDR: helped an officer, didn’t think, just reacted - probably wasn’t the smartest move, but walked away.
