The thing is agree fully that slavery, Jim crow, redlining, the war on drugs, etc have kept marginalised groups in lower socioeconomic status. What I believe is the way to fix this is by first treating people as individuals and second providing programs and opportunity to ALL people who are in that lower status regardless of race. It will take time but the reason more black people will be poor will then be similar (not the same of course) but similar to why some poor white areas are poor. It won't be because there are racists holding them back because they dislike and want to hurt black people. At one point Irish where oppressed (obviously no were near black people) but the answer wasnt to treat them differently because they are Irish but to treat them the same as individuals first. The problem I have with things like affirmative action is its not going far enough. Its a half measure. We should be helping make things easier for ALL people who have been exploited by the capitalist system. I did my best to explain. I know its not well written but do you see what I'm saying?
