This is seriously creepy. I have no good explanation for this, but it has kind of haunted me since I was a kid.
When I was seven years old, my grandpa, who I was really close to, passed away. I was very close to him and was incredibly upset when he died.
One of the things we bonded over was comics. He used to save me the comic page from the newspaper each day and he would draw a little distinctive smiley face next to the ones he thought were funny - usually one or two smiley faces a day next to his favorite one or two strips. He had a distinctive sense of humor - he LOVED puns.
About six months later, I woke up in the middle of the night and he was in my bedroom. He sat down on the bed next to me and didn't say anything, but just wrapped his arm around me like he used to. Then he got up and walked over to a bulletin board in my room where I had hung up a few of my favorite comic strips. He pointed at one of them and smiled a huge smile, then he patted me again and walked out into the hallway. I followed him and he went out the front door, opening it and closing it behind him. I looked out the window for him and he was gone.
OK, big deal, kid has a vivid dream. Here's where things get weird.
The next day, we had the Sunday paper delivered to the house. I was the first one awake and I was awake when it hit our front step because I heard it. I went outside and brought it in so I could read the comics and the sports section. My parents were both still in bed and had been since I woke up an hour or two earlier.
Next to one of the comics - I think it was Dennis the Menace - was a smiley face, exactly like the one he used to draw. The comic had a pun in it and was exactly the kind of comic he would have found funny.
I still, to this day, have no rational explanation for this. I can't come up with any logistical way in which my parents could have pulled it off or even any reason why they would have done such a thing. I saved that comic page for years - it was accidentally tossed after I moved out for college or otherwise I would still have it.
