[Serious] People that have/do drive drunk, why, and what is it like?

I actually have a DUI on my record, it's the most shameful thing I've ever done and hopefully will ever do. I'd like to say it was a "one time thing" but it wasn't. Even before I could legally drink I was the "designated drunk driver" because my friends said I was the best at it. In reality they just weren't dumb enough to do it themselves. I did it often too, to the point that I thought it was just kind of normal and everyone did it but didn't say. Out of all the times I should have been pulled over and arrested, the time the got me I was barely over the limit- pulled over for my license plate light being out. It was fucking horrible.

As to what it's like? I kow this is horrible, but it's fun. It really is and that's part of why dumbass young me thought it was ok. Almost felt like a video game, except at the time you don't think about a "game over" actually being a fucking GAME OVER.. For you and anyone unlucky enough to be with or around you.

It's been 5ish years now and I'm actually glad it happened. I don't sit behind a wheel if I've had more than one beer, and Ive gotten in physical altercations with good friends in order to keep them from driving when they've had too much. I even met the cop who arrested me at a bloc party and thanked him- I really think had I not been arrested I'd have killed myself some night, or even worse, someone else.
