(Serious) People who switched sides politically, what was it and what caused you to switch?

I wouldn't say I switched sides, I just grew up and let my education and experiences fill me in. My family is Republican and I followed that unquestioningly as a kid. I remember going with my dad to the polls in 2000 and asking why he was voting for Bush, just because I was a curious kid. "Gore is a liar" was all I got as an answer, but it satisfied me then. Around Obama's first election, I started to question things a lot more. I didn't really care for Obama or McCain, but it was never really a talking point. Really, my family never talks politics unless it's to laugh at the absurdity of what goes on (Trump doesn't bother my parents, they're more entertained by his idiocy than anything else).

I've drifted along the various party lines though because I realized Republicans were becoming a bit unhinged when the Tea Party started up, and I would hear Rush Limbaugh talking nonsense. I agreed less with their ideas, especially the ignorance to climate change, that was the big one.

That said, I can't say I've "switched" sides. I voted Democrat in the last presidential election, but I feel Hillary was an awful choice to have to go with - but I never would have voted Trump. I remain somewhere in between, but lean Democrat I suppose. GOP is insane nowadays, but the Democrats are spineless.
