[Serious] Police officers of reddit, have you ever had to arrest a relative/SO/friend? If so, what was it like afterwards?

It's about 0200, my partner and I rolled up on two guys in front of a known drug usage area (front of a liquor store). I talk with the person in front of the store and my partner talks to the guy that's walking away. The person in front of the store happens to be the first guy I ever arrested (he has since overdosed and died, and the initial arrest happened just a year ago). My guy says, "buddy is the one with the drugs and I got nothing". I let my guy go and turn my attention to my partners guy.

Long behold my partner is now shouting at this unknown man because he threw a crack pipe and some crack on the ground. He then attempted to crush it with his shoe... He was then arrested and taken to our HQ to be processed.

When we get to HQ, I realize this guys is an old-ex-very-close-middle school/high school-friend "Cris". I have been seeing Cris around town since I came to work in the city. Cris now realizes who I am. He's like "Bro can you help me man, I messed up, talk to your boy". I talk to the arresting officer and find out his charges. At this point Cris is beginning to get enraged because he realizes his high is wearing off and he's in jail. He's getting possession and a paraphernalia charge and my partner is not charging him with the destruction of evidence charge. I talk to Cris and inform him of this and tell him the officer is not charging you for the destruction so be thankful.

Cris is now hanging off of the cell bars like a money and screaming very loud at my partner. All my partner is trying to do is get his paperwork done and book Cris into county ASAP. Cris then begins to rip his bed with his teeth and punch the walls of the cells. He then started to bang his head on the cells and that's when we had to stop him front hurting himself any further. We called in the 2 medics who were down the hall and staged outside the cell. As soon as he turned his back for a moment I opened the cell and 4 of us rushed in. We grab him and strapped him down to a back board and laid him down. He struggled for a bit but we were otherwise successful.

Cris went to sleep for a bit and when it was time to transport his high had totally gone away. He was cool and didn't give my partner any further issues. He asked my partner if I was an officer with the city, he said he knew me. Cris had a partial cocaine psychosis and didn't remember I was the one who strapped him down.

TL;DR- partner arrested drug addicted old friend, goes nuts in the cells, and doesn't remember I was even there.
