Serious: Redditors from Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria, or any predominantly Muslim country. What are some things not being accurately portrayed by the Media?

I came from a 'moderate' Muslim country. I was born as a Muslim and was raised in a pretty religious environment (though not extremist.)

Anyway, you'd be surprised by how many people here unconsciously justify ISIS attacks.

'Islam is a religion of peace etc' but when an attack was carried out in a gay bar, 'Who told them to be gay?'

One of the most recent occurrences was the bombing in Ariana Grande's concert. 'It's all her fault (Ariana's). Why'd those people go to a concert anyway? it was clear that Allah was unhappy about that.' No seriously, that was literally what that person said.

Homophobia is prevalent here too. Don't even dream of having a peaceful life once you are outed here.

Oh, and I am not sure if this is the problem of the teacher itself, but when i was twelve, our female ustazah made some pretty disturbing justification about child brides and I am pretty sure half of the class were brainwashed into believing her cause I did until I got older and started having brain to think on my own.

My point, the Muslim community here react differently when facing foreigners and when not. if you want to know what Muslim thinks, you have to grow up with them as one of them. otherwise, it is very hard for you to get the clear picture.

PS: We were also taught in school that touching non-muslims are akin to touching pigs. lol
