[Serious] Redditors who have seen a ghost before, what happened?

Haven't SEEN a ghost, nor will I ever say I believe in them. But damn can I not explain this: me and the gf were sitting on the couch watching a movie (no one else was home) when I hear a very faint knocking sound. My girlfriend didn't seem to hear it so I didn't think anything of it. 5 minutes or so later I hear it again. knock knock knock. This time my girlfriend looked at me. I ask "do you hear that knocking sound?" she nods. Immediately we hear it again, slightly louder this time and with the same 3 rhythmic knocks as before. knock knock knock. She looks at me again and says "is that part of the movie or not I can't tell". I press the pause button so we can listen. We sit for a couple minutes whispering and listening. We hear nothing. I press play again. Just a few seconds after the knocking is back again. But louder still. knock knock knock It sounds very human. Deliberate. Like someone knocking on the front door, but the sound was very clearly not coming from the front of the house. It sounds like it's coming from the TV, or the wall next to the TV. I rewind the movie a few seconds to see if the sound will play again in the same spot. The sound happened again, KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK but it was very noticeably louder that time. I pause the movie again "I still can't figure out if it's coming from the tv or not!" I exclaimed. Then we heard it. KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK. There was no mistaking it that time, my girlfriend looks at me and points to the closet door next to the TV, her finger trembling. I approached the door and right as a begun to reach for the handle, the knocking occurred again, but this time violently, the type of knocking where you would need to hammer the door with the side or your fist to create that kind of power. BAM BAM BAM The door visibly shook on its hinges. My girlfriend screamed and ran out the room into the hallway, I was not slow to follow. My head spun thinking of all the possibilities. Maybe my brother was playing a prank on us? I thought he wasn't home? Would he really sit in that closet for hours just to try to scare us? It couldn't have been an animal so what the fuck was that? After standing back and staring at the only exit to the room for a minute, I swear I heard the knocking again but it had become very faint once again, I finally got the courage to approach the door again. I opened my pocket knife, it made me feel safer. When I got to the door I opened it quickly, before the fear got the better of me. There was no one on the on the other side of the door. Nothing. No where to hide, no way out besides the door I was watching.

This happened about 5 months ago and I have kept that closet door open since.
