[Serious] What is an alarming fact that the next generation is going to have to deal with?

Your sentiments are noble and more people need to be like you, just to make the world a better place to live in while we are here. Unfortunately we won't be here much longer in the contact's of the planet's timeline. We are a species that has evolved to destroy ourselves. Token efforts by a few conscientious humans will merely serve to alleviate the guilt and retard the inevitability of where we are headed.

The M.O. of corporations is profit. To slow down the destruction of our civilization will require corporations to change the very nature of their being. It will require humans to say "you know what? I don't need to make that much money anymore, I'd rather be kinder to the planet" - it's not going to happen. The real people that can effect significant and necessary change just don't give a shit. They are psychopathic. The world is run by psychopaths and good intentioned citizens, although theoretically have the power to change things, just aren't prepared to make the necessary sacrifices.

The planet has become a dumping ground for waste and garbage. This waste and garbage is increasing at an exponential rate. Consumption, energy use, packaging etc etc increases every year as the population increases. Technology advances and people want more. They want more comforts, more gadgets, more of everything. It will require a mass rejection of everything we have been conditioned to value. It will require us adopting a lifestyle of voluntary simplicity and giving up everything we have been conditions dot become dependant upon. As consumers and the lifeline of corporations we will be the ones who will have to bring fossil fuel demand to a halt. How many people who go on about global warming actually drive gas powered cars do you think? How many have iPhones? How many buy packaged goods from the supermarket? How many own furniture? How many have trash to throw out at the end of the day? How many fly in aeroplanes or take the train? How many own any products with plastic in them?Answer is nearly all of them. If you don't drive an electric car you don't even have the right to speak about global warming. GTFO and come back when you have an electric car or solar panels on your roof.

Modern society thrives upon consumption and waste. The population is growing and more and more manufacturing, consumption and waste will follow suit.

Do you think the government will put pressure on the car manufacturers to stop manufacturing gas power vehicles? Do you think the government will suddenly stop all wars of conquest because "it's affecting the environment"? The government by definition does not care - they are part in parcel with the corporations/banks and the only thing they will get us to do is to PAY MORE TAXES (carbon tax) to offset the effects on the environment…as though more money in their pockets is going to save a tree or two.

Halting the effects of climate change on the planet will require a huge drop in the population growth rate. Who do you think can stop humans from reproducing? As a species, we are here to self-destruct. The planet will survive and regenerate itself. When it has had enough, it will flick us off as though we were a flea. The planet is not under threat, we are. You want to change it? Eliminate money. Good luck with that.
