[Serious]What can a person (who does not have a lot of money) do to protect the environment and wildlife as an individual?

These might be unpopular because they’ll have a big impact on your life, but: • DIET: Beef is fucking terrible for the planet. Stop eating beef (& veal) and you cut your carbon footprint from your diet by almost half. It’s also super expensive. Vegetarian is even better, vegan is ideal, but just cutting down does a lot of good. Avoid air freighted foods – those tomatoes grown in mid-winter are probably air freighted or grown in a heated greenhouse, and they taste grim anyway. • TRANSPORT: Take public transport as much as possible. I get this is difficult in the USA, but if you live in a city (especially in Europe) you have no excuse. For those with the money to fly on a regular basis, stop doing that, it’s just terrible. • AT HOME: These are easier and cheaper, and they make a difference. Avoid the heating and A/C as much as possible – ideally adjust your clothing. Don’t boil more water than you need, and use a lid when you do. Stop leaving on the fucking lights man, it’s an empty room.
