[Serious] What have you done in real life that deserves gold?

I wasn't sure if I should tell this as it can get me into lots of trouble so I've waited til it gets buried a bit. Don't upvote please - I'm posting to get it off my chest, not for karma.

I'm a headteacher in UK. I received a call from a family support worker dealing with a troubled family: "I'm worried about the 'Smith's' can you pop over and see everything's ok." There was a history of domestic violence.

The family lived opposite the school so I agreed.

Mrs Smith answered the door with bloody nose and swollen lip, crying and suprised to see me. I didn't wait to be invited in. The house was smashed up and sitting in the middle of the broken glass and furniture were two girls (smiling at me!) aged 6 and 2. Mrs S negged me not to call police - I did. then discovered MR Smith coming down stairs. He told me to "fuck off out of his house" but was actually trying to get out himself. He looked shocked and a bit scared and yet still managed to shout 'move' at one of the girls as he attempted to make his exit.

I lost it and followed him into the kitchen where I pulled him back by his hair, he buckled and I hit him. got right close to his face and said someting along the lines of if I ever hear of you...etc. now fuck off out of here"

yeah I know it was wrong and it could have cost me my career but I couldnt help it.

Mrs Smith didn't see so there were no witnesses. I waited for the police to arrive then took the girls out of the house, one holding my hand whilst I carried the toddler right back into school and into my office where they got milk and chocolate biscuits.

I offered to take them home with me and my wife whilst the dust settled but soc. services wouldn't let me.

This was 12 months ago. Kids are now up for adoption; mum kept taking dad back to support her meth addiction.
