[Serious] What do you "NOT" like about reddit and the reddit community?

The only real answer to "what about stricter gun control in the US?" Is "there's no way you could ever make it happen".
There are many responsible gun owners who will never give up their rights to bear those arms, and there is no way to gauge who is and is not a fucking lunatic from one day to the next, and any amnesty would do nothing to stop guns being passed around illegally anyway.
It's a stalemate. I'm an Englishman, and I know that since our laws regarding handguns were changed following Dunblane there have been no shootings with legally owned handguns, because now they're all illegal, except there were about 12 different shooting incidents, some resulting in the deaths and serious woundings of people between September and October this year within about 20 miles of my house. One of which was a 7 year old boy and his mother who were shot in the legs because of some supposed turf war.
Gun control is a beautiful dream, we all wish it would result in no poor, innocent fucker ever getting shot again, but it will never be the case as long as guns exist.
As far as stringent mental health and background checks go, well, I lost my fucking mind when I was in my late teens but wasn't diagnosed with any particular mental illness until I was about 21. If I was in the US there'd probably have been nothing stopping me legally owning all manner of weapons in those three or four years, and then I'd already have a cabinet full of guns to go batshit with, if I were that way inclined.
My point, essentially, is that it's a nice idea, but how the fuck do you take guns away from a nation who have owned and used them for all manner of things since that nation was created, because a few people might not use them as responsibly as others? The "A baby can't chew a steak" quote is what I always think of. I also firmly believe that 90% of people who own guns in the US probably don't need them quite as severely as they claim to, but I'm not the guy who's going to try and take them away, they have fucking guns, for fuck's sake.
