I was on a 2nd date with this guy who I liked a lot. I'll call him, Jason. He said that he had a dream where he was hanging out with me and my two brothers. This startled me and here is why.

Jason had briefly met my biological brother, Kyle the week prior. But I do have a 2nd brother that neither Kyle or I had mentioned to Jason. Ron was adopted and has severe mental health issues; Kyle and I were traumatized by things that he did. He has been in prison for the past 10 years and that history is not something I normally bring up on 2nd dates.

I said "That's weird. I do have a 2nd brother." Without acting at all surprised Jason says, "That's not who I met in the dream. You have another brother. He had the same color eyes and hair as you and Kyle but he was taller and slimmer and he says his death is the reason your parents adopted." And I said, "What?!" And then Jason said, "He plays several musical instruments and he's a really good singer and he has a similar sense of humor as you and Kyle. He's very sarcastic. He says you and Kyle and him all knew each other in a past life." Then Jason told me a specific incident that I had never told anyone about when my adopted brother was choking me and I thought he might kill me and Jason said the brother in the dream scared him into stopping.

And then Jason said, "he had a message for you. He wants you to know that your parents adopted Ron because of their grief. It wasn't because they don't love you or Kyle or that you weren't enough. He knows you worry about that and he just wanted you to know. He asked me to tell you that you are enough." At that point I was in tears. That is one of my deepest fears that I don't even admit to myself.

Jason said that his grandpa was a Shaman and that he Jason thinks he might be one too and that he has dreams like that but the one with my brother was the most vivid he'd had so far. He said in the dream me, Kyle and the other brother knew each other well and acted very comfortable together and had inside jokes to the point where Jason was feeling left out. He also said that the brother in the dream had made the choice to stick around for me and Kyle because he knew that we were going to cross paths with Ron at some point. Jason said it would have happened whether my parents adopted him or not.

When I was little I used to pretend I had an older brother and my mom was weird and snappy about it.

I don't know with that if Jason was just good at reading people and went off things I said or if there was truth in it. But I mull it over sometimes.
