[Serious] What's the closest you've come to dying?

7th grade overnight class trip at some state park/trail (don't remember which).

there were about 60 of us, and we were split up into 10 groups, each of our group paired with a guide from the camp. every other group got the whitest white man ever, the dorky ass camping hat, polo shirt, khaki shorts, and a fanny pack.

with my luck, we got the legit native american woman, like Sacagawea and shit. literally carried nothing, living off nature, eating plants and shit.

anyway, so we all broke off and did activities. every other group, their white guide taught them how to start a fire with a flint, kindling, and a blowtorch. then they moved onto making smores and had a nice leisurely walk in the nice trails. i didn't actually see any of this, because our group splintered off from the rest of the class.

our guide brought us into the forest. off the trail and actually into the forest. we had to climb up hills and hike the valleys.

we happened upon a gorge (i dont know what to call it) that was about 20-30' deep. we couldn't really cross unless we went around, which was like a 15 minute hike. however, we could just hike the side of this hill, which was really just a fucking ledge on a cliff, and just get across in 2 minutes. so anyway, we're on this edge and i'm a fat kid and i slip and i'm literally hanging onto the edge of a FUCKING CLIFF. it was a 30' drop onto rocks, so while i might have survived, i certainly woulda gotten FUCKED UP.

but however treacherous it was, the entire thing was very rewarding. Our guide showed us really great, awesome scenery, untouched waterfalls and an awesome spot on top of the hill that overlooked everything. and along the hike, she showed us what sorts of plants we shouldn't touch, and what we can pick and eat.

it was pretty rad.
