There was this really sweet girl in middle school, I will call her Rose, that I was friends with. Rose was very popular, very active in school events, everyone loved her, she always had her make up done nicely, always dressed really nice, and she was one of the nicest people you would ever meet. She was burned pretty badly in a fire. She had scarring all over her arms and legs and face. Nobody really cared, and nobody brought it up. But this one boy hadn’t really caught onto the fact that she was burned in a fire. He was a bully, but most of the time the things he would do weren’t super malicious, everyone assumed he just didn’t understand that he was hurting other people. That is, until this happened… I was in art class with Rose, we were chatting and I had left the table for a minute. Rose and the boy got into a verbal altercation. Then he said these words, “ Well, just get away for me, I don’t want that disease you have!”. Rose looked very hurt and replied, “ The name of my disease is called being on fire”. You could hear a pin drop… no one really talked to him after that. Everyone shunned him
