[Serious] Women of Reddit who have lived in a country with Sharia law what was it really like?

I mean, obviously it was nothing like I was used to, but it was actually ok and I got used to it very quickly (I only lived there for 2-3 months). I didn't have to cover my hair (neither did any woman), I definitely wasn't required to have a man with me in public, there was no modesty police and I was catcalled way more frequently and way more aggressively when I lived in the US. I think I was catcalled twice, and on both occasions other men immediately defended me (I've never seen that happen in Europe or the US). I got a couple of weird stares but that was more because I was a foreigner in a relatively homogeneous city. It was weird to be somewhat invisible though - people always addressed my fiancé, never me, and if I spoke in a conversation I was basically ignored. My fiancé and I are both atheists (my fiancé is from this country though, so people automatically assume he is Muslim and I'm white so people automatically assumed I was Christian) so we had to keep our lips zipped about that (although I did tell one or two people and they didn't care). We lived in a fairly liberal city, obviously other regions enforce sharia law much more forcefully.
