Seriously, fuck /r/'food'. Banning mention of activism is one thing, banning the word itself is incredibly childish.

I understand why you feel that way. I was a mod for a popular gaming company forum for many years, so really, I get it. But don’t you find it absurd to ban an entire category of food? Especially for a subreddit that was a default sub for so long. Vegan submission are far from the majority over there, so it’s not like they’re awash with them compared to other things - many people here refuse to post there at all for various reasons. Locking threads that get out of hand or having a no-political-discussion rule makes sense, but blanket-blocking an entire category that is relevant because some people can’t be mature is silly.

Although, it seems like they have updated the rules to using “vegan” as a flair instead of in titles, so if that’s true, they have switched to a more reasonable approach anyway, which I quite like... it’s more subtle and better organized. Haven’t confirmed this, so unsure.

It’s true that the mods aren’t paid, but for such a large sub that was (is?) a default subreddit, I am fairly certain there are hundreds of people who would be willing to volunteer there. I personally feel that such a large subreddit should remove mods that are prone to fits of rage and childish behaviour, but the same problem mod has been in position for years, across several dominant subreddits, and I’ve yet to see anything change despite mountains of evidence of poor behaviour. While perhaps unrelated to this particular topic (no idea if they had a hand in this or not), it doesn’t particularly foster any sympathy in me for them, in any case.

Anyway, not much left for me to say at this point. If you still don’t agree, you’re entitled to that. Just explaining my position a bit more clearly.
