Setting up an uppercut

Like others are saying it depends on the situation, but a real easy tactic if you're on the inside is to throw 3 or 4 wide punches to set up. I like to get inside, throw a hook then wide right hand both to the body. Not really concerned about damage with those, just trying to open and lower their guard. Most amateurs will be wide open with their elbows low and also tend to crouch a bit if you land. Easy lane for a uppercut right on the button. Tyson used to throw a real wide right to the body, pivot slightly then follow with a vicious right uppercut upstairs. That's another possibility. The ol' slip-their-jab and counter with uppercut is fucking amazing, but not easy to execute. I think any sort of situation where you're on the inside is a great time to set up a good uppercut. I also like to throw a jab, step back, then up. Kinda like the classic jab step back right hand, except throw the uppercut. Was never all that easy for me to land though, cause I have a real shirt wingspan. Last, a real easy tactic that works at times is to just throw a 1-2-uppercut (with either hand). If you've thrown a lot of 1-2-3s, sometimes people will instinctually pin their right hand to their ear after the cross is thrown in anticipation of a hook.
