Survivor on Mystery Lake.

Was at day 14, the longest I've managed. Was out on the lake ice fishing most of the day. I've gotten fairly cocky the past two days because I had found a rifle and already killed like three wolves. I finally felt like I had some semblance of control out there in the wilderness. That was a fucking mistake.

So, as the sun is going down, a storm kicks up, and I've used the few bits of fire starting stuff I had brought with me down to the lake, but I'm being stubborn. "It's only a short walk up to the cabin" I said, "I can see it from the hut, what's a little cold status for a good amount of food?"

So I catch one more fish and then head out into the dark and the roaring blizzard. As I am halfway across the lake, I hear a wolf growl, and turn around to see a wolf padding across the ice toward me about twenty yards away.

I raise my rifle and don't even attempt to back away. I wait for the fucker to get within about 15 feet so I can dome him with one shot.

I forgot to fucking reload my rifle. Almost as if on cue, the wolf charges my ass and proceeds to tear me apart. I fight it off, stand up, wounded, bleeding, low af condition. Now, I probably should have just turned and dragged myself back to the cabin, but instead I reloaded my rifle and pegged the wolf from distance as it was fleeing.

I died literally something like ten feet from my cabin. Had I not wasted the time to revenge-kill the wolf, I probably could have survived...maybe.
