Truck driver here. You are correct.

I honestly don't care if the on-merging car is faster or slower than me, but they gotta be one or the other and cannot simply linger next to me when their lane is ending in 1000 feet. If they got the hp for it (and the gender neutral balls for it) they can accelerate and pass me and I won't care. If not, they can tap the brake and fall in behind me. I do not know the capabilities of their car, they do. I'm just gonna hold my handling attitude and let them figure it out.

One thing I'd like to add though (even though it's not depicted in this post) is when an on-merging car is clearly ahead of me already and can simply merge on without issue but just as they are running out of acceleration lane they see me behind them and jamb on the brakes in a sudden and unwarranted attempt to get behind me. How fast can I get 90,000 lbs to stop? For the love of your respective god or diety, if you're already ahead of me, find the gas pedal and GO.
