Plant based omega 3s are the short chains, which the body has been shown to be able to synthesize into long chains like DHA and EPA. Adding a vegan omega 3 ensure no deficiency there.

Source for the IV anecdote you provided? I've never heard of any vegan doing that, and all research has shown lower deficiency rates in vegans than people following an omnivore diet.

Especially since the ADA says a healthy vegan diet is suitable for all stages of life. No need for IVs there. The longest living populations on the planet are vegan.
