Shenzhen becomes first city in China to ban consumption of cats and dogs

If anything, my idea of the whole farming thing would boost wildlife populations. When was the last time you went and hunted a wild hog? Probably never. Why bother going through the trouble when you can pick up some chops for $5 from the store? Exactly.

So why go through the trouble to catch and eat wild stuff when it’s readily available for pretty cheap, and you get that guarantee that the meat is fresh and safe due to regulations. Basically a no brainier.

Also China isn’t unique in its treatment of animals. I’d argue western factory farms are way worse. At least most of the Chinese animals lived wild and free until captured, here animals live their entire life in cramped awful conditions. There’s plenty of cruel dishes in the west too, foie gras for example. Even stuff like crab and lobster I think are a bit cruel, no?
