Sheriff Joe Arpaio likes to talk about his cost-cutting programs. But abuses in his Arizona jails have led to hundreds of millions of dollars in legal judgments.

You said inhumane. Or should we treat our own citizens worse than POWs?

You referenced the Geneva Conventions like it had some say on the matter. I don't consider a lack of comfort to be inhumane. As for a lack of medication, it depends, there are mistakes that happen that don't speak to a systematic issue and in this era where sex changes are being provided at tax payer expense, who knows what you're referencing.

No amount of your repeating this makes it true. The sheriff is violating the law. Defined by the legislature and interpreted by the court system.

What's funny is that the Sheriff has support of the Arizona legislature for the most part. The only issues he runs into are with the Feds who choose to not enforce laws that they pass and that pass laws that violate the 10th Amendment.

The DOJ lawsuit is for a hell of a lot more than that.

Sure it is. I mean, the DOJ opens Civil Rights lawsuits willy nilly these days. They opened one for Darren Wilson and for George Zimmerman, both for entirely political reasons.

They are actually listening to the courts and DOJ in ferguson. Because the law requires it and they will be sued otherwise.

Oh, of course, what choice do they have? You have huge number of activists burning their town down and calling them all racists because a cop shot a black man that was attacking the cop. Considering the President, Eric Holder, and members of Congress are rallying against them, it MAY be more than a small police department like Ferguson's can withstand.

Upholding the laws of this country and the rights of citizens is not hostility.

SB 1070 upheld the laws of this nation because the Feds won't. It was the Federal opinion that they should be FREE to not follow the law. That's what's behind the most recent actions from the Executive. They're outright saying they won't enforce Federal laws while also blocking state action on the issue.

He has lost multiple lawsuits for violating the law and for refusing to correct his systematic violations of the law.

Oh yeah, how many lawsuits has he lost vs how many have been filed against him? He had over 2,000 federal lawsuits filed against him in a three year span.

Not to the degree he is doing it.

Sure he does, that's why he's still Sheriff.

It's not a catch 22. He routinely violates the rights of citizens of the United States.

It is a catch-22, there is no way to satisfy the requirements under the Civil Rights statutes if you are engaging police actions against a protected class. We see it all the time when police deal with any minority group. Racism! is always the call to arms. It doesn't matter that those areas are also some of the lawless areas.
