Yeees. My Nmom basically convinced everyone I was mentally handicapped, I think for the attention. I don't talk much, but know a lot. Got me diagnosed with Asperger's and was put on some meds. Then after I started exploring my own mental health, I found some articles, similar to the stories here, that helped me realize how bad it was and that I really needed to see a therapist. Went in for mental health care and after several months of different programs, brain imaging, and assessments, I got diagnosed with a severe dissociative disorder and developmental PTSD. After 6-years of treatment, I'm about 90% healed. I never dissociate as much as I used to and my flashbacks are only about once a month now. Life is so much better.
