Shigeru Miyamoto: Why the Wii U crashed and burned

I think it was games. I'm a hardcore gamer with hardcore gaming friends who've all be gaming since the 80s. We want to support Nintendo but we don't want the same rehashed games over and over again as the main selling point of the console. We want great games with those rehashed games as back burner options. Apps in every form of computers and consoles have always sold the hardware. None of my gaming friends ever buy a game for their Wii U nowadays. Most have theirs unplugged and collecting dust.

We already have devices that can access the Internet and play Netflix. We don't want that from Nintendo. We want a great console with amazing games (Gamecube, N64). If Nintendo is going to succeeded in the console market anymore they're going to have to realize that their long-term die-hard demographic is nearing and over 30 years old and tired of rehashes.

The younger then 20 crowd wants mobility and they buy their DS offerings. That market should be the focus on the DS and mobile division of Nintendo. As where the console hardware should focus on us older gamers who've been with them for the long haul.

I'm okay with Mario in new ideas like Mario Sunshine. Luigi's Mansion was a great game. However, I don't want to play Mario Party 28 when I'm older. I want something new and fresh. Nintendo doesn't have to compete with M$ or Sony. The Gamecube was an amazing console because of it's games and it never competed with Sony or M$; it's always been in it's own corner of the gaming world. I don't need blood and guts in my games but I do need decent games and story telling with great replay-ability. I wish Nintendo would realize, we just want better games.
