Shit Prussiaboos Say?

people who are obsessed with WW1 German/central power tend to make better cases on defending glorious kaiserreich as the war was more Grey and grey (really it was) so I don't really mind people defending Imperial Germany...

Grey in what way?

In the tensions leading up to the war? Unilaterally Germany's fault.

In the July Crisis not being a simple, run of the mill crisis but manufactured from the beginning to spark all out war? Austria-Hungary's fault, but only because they had unilateral German support as well vis a vis the 1912 War Council.

In moral conduct of how they ran their war effort? Germany was the only power who went around executing masses of civilians in 1914 or any other year for that matter. Leuven, Dinant, etc. Entire cities and history burnt to the ground, entire villages lined up and shot with hundreds dead, tens of thousands sent to concentration camps and 20% of their population becoming homeless due to officer sanctioned, doctrinal and intentional destruction of the Belgian homeland. All to avoid a phantom of muh francs-tireurs.

In terms of professionalism? The British. Fuck if anything the Germans were, of the Western powers, the least professional and the least organized, ESPECIALLY in the opening months of the war. See this post. And don't even get started on the embarrassing "conduct" and "professionalism" of their pathetic officer staff vis a vis Moltke, Kluck, and von Bulow.

In terms of industrial might or economic prowess? They were #3 to Britain's #2 and France's #4 world GDP. Hardly some far and away power. In terms of economy and management? Again, see here.

In terms of ability to adapt to the realities of the Western Front? Especially no. France adopted small unit tactics and infiltration in 1915. Britain implemented the first army wide tactical overhaul in February 1917 which modernized their force in a way that would persist to the end of WWII in spirit. Germany, meanwhile, decided it was not best to spread their doctrinal innovation out across the entirety of the army but rather in concentrated veteran divisions -- literally entire divisions of their best men and then sending those best men into the harshest fighting of the front to push as deep as possible. Lo and behold, those men suffer disproportionate casualties and all that's left are greenies holding the front.

Like really, I don't know how you can 'defend glorious kaiserreich' or how 'it was grey' in any manner. The debate is over, it ended in the 1960's and especially by the 21st century. Germany is responsible for the war starting. It was Germany's pet war ever since they decided upon it in Winter 1912. Germany had an absolutely terrible opening war plan. Germany had an absolutely terrible time adapting. Germany had absolutely terrible leadership (so weak it led to a literal fucking junta halfway through the war taking over), and had absolutely terrible economic handling of the war economy. So I really do mind people defending Imperial Germany because I'm real curious what precisely they're defending.
