Sure, there are some cities with $15 minimum (usually those that also have an outrageous COL), I didn't account for that. I was going by the federal minimum wage since you were talking about residents in general.

But again, what percentage of residents (especially after intern year) are actually putting in 100+ hours every week of the year? I'm sure it happens, but considering it is illegal, I seriously doubt it's the norm anywhere. Besides, there are a number of (non-surgical) specialties that work 40-60 hour weeks for much of their residency after their intern year (higher on inpatient services, lower on outpatient stuff).

I definitely agree that residents work a shitload of hours for comparatively low pay, but to frame residents as indentured servants or slaves is a bit much.
