This is shitty customer service:

You're wrong to compare this game to just another FPS. It's not Unreal Tournament. It's not Battlefront. This is completely different. It is a totally different game, and it also has community which is super important for longevity of a game (despite Wrel's best efforts to get rid of part of that community by taking so lightly on things like Orders chat).

The game I played was a MMO, it would be stretching to call it a RPG but anyway. In the end it built mainly on community and on the fact that you couldn't get what it offered anywhere else (in short I'll just say: possibility for war and for different player groups to dominate their servers, which built a great ingame community of different sides, scoundrels and heroes, but it was much more than that. It wasn't Eve.).

It peaked at slightly over 60k online players at the same time, more than ten years after it was first released. It grew steadily from its release up until roughly a year before that time, when the devs began trying to make it more like other MMOs (WoW) in order to siphon from that player base. Simplifying the PvP, simplifying (minimizing) ingame interaction with other players, and so on. That did not turn out well. The game stagnated around 60k online users and then players started to leave.

Point is, PS2 is not just another FPS. It has community. It's totally wrong to say that this game is supposed to lose players at this rate. This could have been a great success story of a game with relatively minor changes in direction. We're 6 years into the game, and we still don't have a tutorial that explains the game ffs (other than "this is a control point, this is how you jump and crouch). Organizing more serious events is wonky to put it kindly. CAI is a joke and the entire vehicle playerbase is consistently being ignored, because the devs knows better what is fun vehicle gameplay from pure imagination rather than the players who actually play vehicles (the devs don't). We have "long range" weapons that can't kill shit over long range, and can't kill shit on short range either, thanks to the philosophy that "no weapon should hold an advantage over another weapon just because of the situation" or whatever bullshit quote it was.

It all just makes me really angry to think about, really.

Don't put it down to "the game is six years old", it's not that simple, it doesn't explain the rapid decline of this game.
