A good four-year computer science graduate starting salary is ~$120k because there's a limited supply of skilled labor. Part of the issue is learning everything in four years is hard, the successful students started learning earlier... the other half is that smart adults often struggle to switch careers - it's expensive.
"IT as a cost center" is outdated. The trend is businesses renting "cloud" services, developing their internal tools into products, or investing in tech to automate other manual labor...
You're They were talking about the immigrants replacing Americans doing low-value labor, ultimately doomed jobs. I'm talking about how Amazon/Microsoft import thousands of people to work with Americans doing high-skill work because we don't have enough qualified Americans.
