So any list like this is realtively subjective but there were a couple of things that stood out to me by their ommision and I'd like to hear your thoughts on them.
A couple of, what seem like, glaring ommisions from the influence section are Bauhaus, The Fall, The Birthday Party, The Smiths, Joy Divisiion, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Velvet Underground and there were a few others that I thought of reading that have slipped my mind now.
Also no mention of The Smashing Pumpkins? Even if you don't count them as part of the genre 'proper' I thought they would be mentioned.
First off, The Stone Roses, I know they aren't really shoegaze but I'm surprised you didn't mention the Stone Roses as a heavily influenced offshoot that had some mainstream success. Their sound was heavily influenced by some of the bands you mention and are often considered kind of 'post-shoegaze' or what where the genre might have gone. Many Stone Roses songs tick most of the boxes; heavy use of typical shoegaze effects, that full wall of sound in parts of songs, often reflective/melancholy lyrics, etc. Obviously also a lot different but I see a strong link to shoegaze in songs like I Wanna Be Adored

I can see why you wouldn't include Stone Roses if you were being quite strict but plenty of the bands you mention are more 'shoegaze sounding' or influenced rather than necessairly being embodiments of the genre/who only have some songs/albums which are part of the genre (Mazzy Star, Yo La Tengo and The Verve for example). Is it just because you weren't interested in talking about off-shoots or do you not consider them related?
Also not a big deal but isn't it worthin mentioning that britpop partly grew out of shoegaze, it wasn't a radically new genre supplanting it, with bands like the Blur being claled shoegazers early in their career. I know some people say songs like She's So High are pop-shoegaze
