"Shoot them dead": Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte orders police and military to kill citizens who defy coronavirus lockdown

Disclaimer: I am a Filipino residing in the Philippines, who got banned in r/Philippines because of my contrarian views against the sub.

Disclosure: I did not vote for Duterte BUT I am FOR keeping the peaceful end to the quarantine, and therefore support the government.

Warning: Please read the whole transcript to contextualize the matter better.

There is an ongoing attempt by some sectors to destabilize the country by magnifying mistakes of the current administration.

  1. The order was taken out of context. It was his usual bombastic threat against those who threaten to undermine the quarantine. This was primarily directed to violent protestors who violate the quarantine. In Italy, the Mayor threatened violators with FLAME THROWERS

  2. The 20 to 22 protestors in question - KADAMAY - is an organization that was notorious 1 or 2 years ago for FORCIBLY taking socialized housing meant for government personnel, notably of police and military. The government let them stay, but they still complained because of the lack of facilities. Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pandi_housing_project_occupation

  3. There are increasing reports of health workers who are being ATTACKED PHYSICALLY, DOUSED WITH CHLORINE, EVICTED FROM THEIR HOMES. Duterte also threatened perpetrators who do this.

  4. Duterte recently authorized the release of PHP200 billion subsidy for 18 million of the lowest income bracket families - this is being politicized by those who seek to undermine the administration.

With that said, I cannot believe that I am protecting Duterte.

For those who are outside of the Philippines looking in, please, I invite you, if you really care about us, to look deeper into what's going on. The elections are at 2022, and this pandemic and this quarantine is being exploited by some sectors - notably, the left aligned.
