There's a huge biasing in favor of silent film

There are literally only 40 films from before year 1930. There are over twice as many films from 21st century on that list. If anything silent films are underrepresented on that list.

There are films from the 10s, 20s and 30s on this list that have been seen by less than 1000 living people

I've seen every single silent film from that list. And I assume that applies to most of people who are passionate about cinema. Pretty much all the silent films on that list are very basic film canon inclusions. None of them are nearly as obscure as you make it seem. There are far more obscure films on that list from later decades.
