Shoplifter gets caught and smacked around by the store owner

[–][deleted] 6 hours ago  [deleted] [–]Dyhard88 4 points 6 hours ago  In Texas you can......with many many limitations but you can use deadly force to protect your property. In the case of the video however, you would probably get sued by the shoplifter but I would hope there's not a judge anywhere in the state that would fault the owner for protecting his property. This is just my assumption combined with my opinion.....I am not a legal expert by any means. permalinksavereportgive goldreply 0/10000BoldItalicstrikesupLink>QuoteCode•Bullets1.NumbersTable Commenting as: fuckshitpissboston macros

Anyways, haha...this keeper abuses the priv to say the least. And, what he did was battery. He'd be in deep shit. It also depends on the jurisdiction. Some say it isnt ebough to just conceal goods in your bag (for a conviction). Afterall, its the uk. Ive lived there before. He could have simply brought his own bag and was going to pay for it before he leaves. permalinksaveparentreportgive goldreply [–]leveraction1970 5 points 3 hours ago  I've seen a guy trying to talk his way out of trouble with the loss prevention person by claiming this. The only problem was he tried to sneak some steaks out of the store in his pants. No one was buying the "I was going to pay for it" angle. permalinksaveparentreportgive goldreply [–]thunder_c0ck 2 points 2 hours ago  Yeah, I agree. I alluded to that above. The fact of the matter is, if you keep your mouth shut, don't talk to the police, and don't talk to LP, your attorney may be able to argue the above and plead you down, get a dismissal, etc. I'm not saying the white guys is innocent, but there are things he/others can do to shield themselves. All in all, the owner/employee was a divk bag. permalinksaveparentreportgive goldreply [–]RedditRalf 1 point 3 hours ago  True, police won't do shit if they haven't walked out the door with it. It's stupid, on one hand let them steal your goods so you have a case, the other catch them so you don't lost out and have no conviction as they haven't stolen anything. Even if you do get caught the penalties are very light. I can understand this shopkeepers frustration as they are most likely independent retailers and people like that really hurt their profit margins, of which a lot of these people are hardworking and work 13hr shifts to make ends meet. permalinksaveparentreportgive goldreply [–]holla171 2 points 3 hours ago  Shopkeepers privilege means you can hold shoplifters (without constituting false imprisonment) until the police arrive. Pretty sure you don't get to smack 'em around. permalinksaveparentreportgive goldreply [–]Zeddikus 2 points 44 minutes ago  Yeah, but it better be solid reasoning and not just suspicion (at least in my state). Nowadays, most shops have video evidence that they can use to back up their reasoning. If they hold you and you didn't shoplift, and their reasoning for suspecting you is sketchy, they can be sued for false imprisonment and criminal charges applied. permalinksaveparentreportgive goldreply [–]holla171 2 points 36 minutes ago  I think in most states the standard is "reasonable grounds for suspicion" but yes. If I ran a shop and it was insured I wouldn't fucking bother. A guy in East New York almost got shot trying to trap a shoplifter inside his store today. permalinksaveparentreportgive goldreply [–]thunder_c0ck 1 point 2 hours ago  Yep. Thats what I'm trying to say. Thats why I also said it didnt apply to him. permalinksaveparentreportgive goldreply [–]holla171 1 point 2 hours ago  Got it - missed your third line. permalinksaveparentreportgive goldreply [–]pgabra46 1 point 43 minutes ago  Not to mention assault permalinksaveparentreportgive goldreply [–]stonypoint 2 points 6 hours ago  Texas is like another country. permalinksaveparentreportgive goldreply load more comments (2 replies) [–]Rambowe 3 points 7 hours ago  I don't know about never robbing, if the store clerks going to slap then its a good idea to rob it with a gun. permalinksaveparentreportgive goldreply [–]doodleydoo 3 points 3 hours ago  Guns not legal in England. Waaay more difficult and waaaay more jail time. permalinksaveparentreportgive goldreply [–]plymdex 2 points 2 hours ago  Guns really aren't hard to get in the UK, especially in London. (Not proclaiming to be one half of the Cray twins, but I know they're not at all as hard to buy as people think) permalinksaveparentreportgive goldreply load more comments (2 replies) [–]PushcartPops 2 points an hour ago  Armed robbery is not legal anywhere outside of Somalia. permalinksaveparentreportgive goldreply [–]Rambowe 1 point 2 hours ago  Im sure that is the top concern of criminals. permalinksaveparentreportgive goldreply [–]Foxehh 3 points 2 hours ago  Well... Yes? permalinksaveparentreportgive goldreply load more comments (1 reply) [–]tommy4991 1 point 5 hours ago*  you mean a fucked up slap in the wrist. thats evil and sick. knowing this, if someone were to ever endanger my life I would kill them so they won't sue me, because they couldn't follow through with their dumb decisions. permalinksaveparentreportgive goldreply [–]TheMSensation 2 points an hour ago  that shoplifter + a good lawyer = new owner to the store. Good lawyers cost money, I doubt he can get one unless he's planning to shoplift one. permalinksaveparentreportgive goldreply load more comments (3 replies)

I don't think any jurisdiction permits the use of deadly force to retain property. Some jurisdictions allow reasonable force, however in no jurisdiction is it reasonable to use deadly force to protect property. The rationale: life is always more valuable than property
