Shoplifters should be a protected minority

Nobody wants to get harassed or mocked, that's true. But if the reason you're mocked is entirely in your hands, and it hurts you so much, maybe you should change it? If I never showered so coworkers told me that I smell like a rotten piece of meat and that hurt me, maybe I should start showering? I agree though if it's something you can't change, like your skin color or your gender.

I haven't actually looked up any studies to see if it works since it worked so well for me. Looking at these subs I experienced what we call fremdschämen in German, which then turned to shame and disgust for how poorly I treated my body once I realized that I was no different from these people (being overweight).

you want that person to be healthy and happy (which you probably don't)

Here's where you're wrong, buddy. I want everyone to be healthy and happy. Some people are simply beyond the point of nice words, coddling, hugging and tip-toeing around the truth... And for many people that were posted in these subs that point was reached something like 100kg ago.

Do you harass drug addicts too?

I don't know any, so I wouldn't know, I regularly give smokers shit though. I'd imagine drug addicts are different though, since their brains are chemically altered from their normal state to the point where they can't stop themselves, whereas many overweight or even obese people change by themselves without a problem. As I said, I've never met a drug addict though so that statement is just a guess.

you might have forgotten it, but it is never easy.

Nobody ever said it was easy, and I haven't forgotten. Fitness is an ongoing process, if I ever stop I will just get fat again. Never stop running, never stop lifting, never stop dieting. You know what my positive reinforcement was? When I stepped on the scale and saw that I had lost weight again this week. When the compliments started rolling in that I looked so much better now that I lost weight (I believe that is actually what they call a "microaggression"). Not when someone gave me some false reassurance that everyone is different and that some people are just a little heavier built or have a harder time losing weight or some stuff like that.

People are more likely to do right for themselves if they are in a happy and supporting environment

Yeah, we all know what that does. HAES and other stuff like that: "yeah you go gurl, you're beautiful just the way you are, you don't need to change to fit society's warped beauty standards".

If all you hear is that everything is fine and that you are alright and you can do what you want and all around nice words, why would you ever even consider changing? If nobody tells you you are wrong or that what you are doing isn't normal, why would you stop and think the opposite? Even if someone said to you "alright buddy, don't you think it's time you start losing a bit of weight now, since being overweight is unhealthy?" (and even that would be considered impolite by some people since you're basically telling them they are unhealthy), why would you ever say anything else than "No" if you are in your happy and safe little environment where nothing bad ever so much as grazes you?
