The EU is not a confederation, though it's walking on the path to become one. Definitely not a federation.

Are you sure you read it? I repeated like 10 times by now that POLITICAL UNION IS ONE OF THE OBJECTIVES OF THE EUROPEAN UNION -- BUT IT'S NOT A POLITICAL UNION YET.
