I think we should all take a second to admire that after almost 20 years Office Space still accurately portrays America corporate culture.

I'd add that there's a bit of context missing now that was relevant at the time. I worked in a place that could've been the set from Office Space when it came out. What many people aren't old enough to remember is the dotcom bubble and subsequent burst.

We had something of a black tuesday moment then and a recession that hit a lot of industries that weren't even dotcom companies. There was a period where people had a real fear of hanging on to soulless, life-sucking office jobs.

There was this weird mix of perspectives where some people making the case that you should live conservatively and work out your remaining days trying to save enough to retire, but where everyone had also seen people get stupid rich on shitty ideas. All of that baggage is in that movie.
