should we avoid forming opinions on topics we aren't well versed in?

No, it is fine to have opinions about topics you are not well versed in. I have opinions about physics, for instance, and thoughts about physics and this is perfectly fine. What I do have to do is recognize that my opinions on physics are most likely misguided or I misunderstand something about them, but I still have these opinions. In fact, when I do talk to my friends who are physics majors, I often do bring up my concerns and opinions with them, and they often elucidate me on the problems I am having because I approach the conversation with an open mind.

What I should not do is lecture other people on physics if I am not too sure about it myself, because I do not think my view is sufficiently informed to inform someone else who is seeking help about it. It perhaps might be a good idea to read an introductory text-book on a topic or at least, in this case, watch a Pewdiepie video before having an opinion on the relevant topic.
